Hypertemporality Animations are derived
from simple, short, gif animations. These animations are
then sliced into hundreds of smaller animations and placed
in an html table. Due to browser inconsistencies and network
deficiencies, the pieces of the original image arrive in
your browser out of phase, and a dynamic new image is created. I encourage
viewers to look at these pages with different browsers and
to reload the pages to uncover different image possibilities
within this system.

In 1968 Andy Warhol stated that; ‘In
the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes’.
Using Warhol’s statement as a premise, 15x15 advances
the statement into the 21st century; with new media technology
anyone and everyone can be world famous....for 15 seconds.
Anyone can contribute to the piece using a standard mobile
camera phone that can capture video, and can send video
clips directly from their camera phone using MMS (Multimedia
Message Service), via email or upload from your personal
computer to the online database http://www.15x15.org or
email me@15x15.org The clips should be the standard video
setting for a cameraphone, 176 x 144 and can be longer than
15 seconds but will be reduced to that length, participants
can send as many clips as they wish. The clips can be portraits,
experiential, vignettes, experimental, anything within reason,
from the banal to the downright bizarre! In the 21st century
art is being fundamentally realigned for anyone and everyone.
15x15 is a homage to Warhol, a realisation of the artistic
utilisation of new media technology and the democratisation
of art in the age of digital production.
Vickers is a Senior Lecturer in New Media
at the Hull School of Art & Design, United Kingdom.
He previously worked as a freelance photographer and designer,
before becoming interested in the possibilities of interactive
multimedia in 1994.The emerging digital technologies had
an immediate impact on his work as a photographer and he
was an early exponent of the ‘digital darkroom’.
He gained industry practice as a multimedia producer, working
on a broad range of websites and interactive multimedia
projects for commercial clients and arts organisations,
before moving into lecturing full time. His research interests
include new media design and the impact of digital technology
on the photographic image, both still and moving. Richard
is a practicing new media artist, multimedia producer and
design consultant. |

The CITYSNAPPER_X project is a sociological
and visual approach of main western cities that leads, during
a month, to a daily collection of images and city dweller's
statements – thus gradually constituting an inter-subjective
view of the city – which can be followed on the internet
through a poly-navigation system, both hypertextual (http)
and cartographic.
Confronting the personal view of the photographer to the
relationship in-between the city dwellers and their city,
the project aims to show a mapping of the social context,
and give bases for its analysis. The bipolarity of Citysnapper
is a result of an interest for the urban phenomenon, considered
under two different aspects:- the city as a physical construction,
translated into photographs, - the city as a mental –
and even imaginary – construction that city dwellers
build from their daily contact with it, translated into
interviews. The web interface weaves then bonds between
these data using a system of poly-navigations, so as to
give account of the opinions and glances of the inhabitants
on their urban reality.
Born in Belgium in 1962, Olivier Vanderaa
studied sound engineering at the I.N.S.A.S. school of Cinematic
art in the Belgian capital. He studied Photography at the
Ecole de Photo de la Ville de Bruxelles and web design at
St-Louis Informatique. He undertakes in 2002 a reflection
on web interfaces and transmission of information through
the Internet. Vanderaa’s grounding in these diverse,
but related, fields has enabled him to work with both sound
and images. The main theme of his work is contemporary western
society, and particularly urban structures and cultures,
viewed from a critical and poetic viewpoint, leaning on
a documentary base. The question of space transcription
through photographic and digital medias, the place of probable
in the representation of reality, as well as the participation
of the audiences in the creative process, are also
among themes that subtend his work. Vanderaa’s work
has been shown in many venues since 1997, and forms part
of the permanent collection of the Communauté Française
de Belgique. |

Superpositions is an audio-visual click
able collage made with night tripping, urban explorations,
cycling's machines...The evolutive's object is a construction
based on randoms games and audiences interactions. The relation
with the creation can be very active or else contemplative,
both attitude generating a new perception where the spectator
is not always really sure that he has been responsible or
not of that sound, of this new picture. When the visitor
takes time to explore, he can found two ways to navigate.
Each construction has a door, a linear link that allows
him to go to one universe to another. There is also a die,
loaded on top level that allows to navigate randomly to
one of the sixth faces of the proposition.
The collective Position is based in Marseilles
France, created by three persons : Remy Rivoire, a visual
artist, who works around the abstracts representations of
the world : maps, mechanicals drawings...Renaud Vercey,
a multimedia director who creates interactive videos for
the scene (theatre, dance) or the web and Bruno Voillot,
who is a social worker and who conceived the sound design
and made for this creation, huge documentations and researches
on the web . For this project the collective has been helped
by Jean-François Riviere for the action script code
and by Yann Norry for the soundscape.

{transcription} examines the mediated
histories generated by today’s news corporations and
reflects upon our collective preoccupation with real-time
information generation, distribution and access. Given the
developed world’s countless network structures and
our current state of data saturation, has news media evolved
beyond mere information source and become a new form of
cultural stimulant? The artwork is generated from headline
news items sampled from the live
internet news service of the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation).
Each article is deconstructed into its basic image, text
and audio components. This material is then algorithmically
recombined into an aesthetic entity in which the informational
content is still partially discernable.
Michael Takeo Magruder is an American artist
based in the UK deploying New and Technological Media within
Fine Art contexts. His artworks have been showcased in over
200 exhibitions and 25 countries, including venues such
as the Courtauld Institute of Art, London, EAST International
2005, Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography and Trans-Media-Akademie
Hellerau. His works are regular inclusions in international
New Media festivals, such as Cybersonica, CYNETart, FILE,
Filmwinter, SeNef, Siggraph and Split. His artistic practice
has been funded directly by Arts Council England, The National
Endowment for the Arts, USA and numerous public galleries
both within the UK and abroad. He is also recognised for
his on-line arts practice and has been commissioned by leading
portals for Internet Art such as Turbulence.org and Soundtoys.net.
Artistically, his current interests concern the simultaneous
utilisation and dissection of new technology as a means
to explore the formal structures and conceptual paradigms
of the digital realm. He seeks to create artworks in which
there are no divisions between technologies, aesthetics,
and concepts |
